There always seems to be mixed feelings when a beloved bar changes owners. On one hand, it’s wonderful to see the legacy of the establishment continue, but on the other hand it’s sad to see longtime owners retire and turn the place over to someone new. But, in a rare twist of fate THE OUTPOST BAR has new owners that are not strangers to it or the Ely community thus making the transition easy for longtime customers.
Yvette and CB Tillery took over ownership of The Outpost Bar located at 1001 E. Aultman St. on September 1st, 2023. Yvette has worked for a few different owners at The Outpost on and off for the past 24 years, with the last being Pat Jackson and Brian Peart. When given the opportunity to purchase the bar, Yvette jumped at the chance as she has always wanted to “one-day” own it. And, that “one-day” finally arrived, making her dream come true. She couldn’t have done it without her husband of 30 years, CB, by her side. Together they plan on The Outpost to continue being a staple in Ely, and to make it a legacy for their children.

Cynthia Davis – Yvette and CB along with their kids, Reese, Kaysie and Damian are the proud owners of the Outpost
In a sit-down interview Yvette said they’re not going to make major changes to the “OP”, but have made some and will continue to upgrade as any new owner would. No worries…the pool table, dart boards, and gaming machines are still there. Yvette, being a cancer survivor has opted for a non-smoking place of business, which is a gain for those of us who are non-smokers (there is a smoking area outside with heaters for the winter months). Upon entering, I immediately noticed fresh air free from smoke, cleanliness, more lighting, and a very warm and homey feeling…a day drinkers paradise with five stars!
Being lover’s of Rockabilly, their 1952 Chevy “Luci” sit’s out front. A slow-remodel will consist of a Rockabilly theme along with much of the same decor that has adorned the walls for many-a-year.
A GRAND RE-OPENING is set for October 13th, which just happens to fall on a Friday…as in Friday the 13th! Dress-up in your favorite Rockabilly attire and if you own a classic car or rat rod feel free to park it out front for all to admire. Doors open at 11:00 a.m. with drink specials, BIGGIN’S BBQ serving-up delicious food from 6:00pm -9:00pm, and DESERT ILLNESS providing live-music starting at 7:00pm. Also, a winner of The Outpost Art Contest will be announced, and awarded with a $500 cash prize. Starting NOW, one can purchase a ceiling tile for $10 from bar (the tile is literally taken from the bar’s ceiling). The tile must be painted/decorated in a Rockabilly theme of pin-up girls, cars, monsters, etc. and turned-in prior to October 13th, 2023. Call 775-289-4511 or message The Outpost on Facebook for questions and info.
The Outpost will be working in conjunction with Ely’s Just-a-Ride for anyone needing a ride to or from on any given day or night (flyers with info are posted inside the bar). Mark your calendar, and plan on having a great time!
Lastly, Yvette wants everyone to know that Fall is the best season for sipping and savoring the perfect Loaded Bloody Mary. Let Kim, Kaysie or Yvette prepare for you a “Lunch in a Glass”, or stop-by for Brunch on “Bloody Sundays” for a deliciously made and discounted Loaded Bloody Mary! Happy Hour starts at 5:00pm with daily specials 7-days a week. 11:00p.m. until closing.
The Bristlecone Tribune wishes Yvette and CB Tillery, owners of THE OUTPOST BAR, much success in their new endeavor!
