Our Mom and Grandma passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023. She entered this life on November 4, 1932 and was welcomed by her parents Joseph Ernest and Maude Cannon Stucki. She came from humble circumstances beginning in Ivins, Utah and later moving to Ely, Nevada. She briefly lived with her family in a boxcar and would tell us she was one of the original Boxcar Children. She attended elementary school in Ely, Nevada and told the typical stories of walking uphill to and from school in the cold and snow. She particularly loved her sisters, Shirley and Darlene, who were her childhood playmates and confidants; they had a special relationship that would last throughout their lives. Mom and Darlene worked together at Crystal Café in Ely, Nevada during Mom’s high school years, and as adults Mom and Shirley would speak daily on the phone. The phone would ring at 9:00 straight up; if ever it rang earlier or later it was assumed that the clock was wrong. She became aware of Dad when he whistled at her one day as he was herding cows and the rest, as they say, is history. She married George Ashby Sinfield, the love of her childhood and life, on September 3, 1950 on the lawn of Ashby’s parents’ home in Lund, Nevada. Soon after, he left to serve in the Korean War while she finished her senior year of high school. During that school year she lived with the Horsley family and has always considered them an extension of her family as do we.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was an example of prayer and faith to her family. After Ashby’s retirement, they were called as special ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. The temple remained an important part of her life even after their release. She loved simplicity, small town life, card games, crochet and tatting, Chinese checkers, flowers, sunshine, baby animals and her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Ernest and Maude Cannon Stucki, her brothers Alpine Stucki, Boyd Stucki, Stan Stucki and Randy Stucki, her sisters Darlene Herrera, and Shirley Peacock, her grandson Kody Sinfield, her son Wesley Sinfield, son-in-law Evan Ellis, and her dear husband Ashby Sinfield. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Ellis, Garth (Geneva) Sinfield, Georgia (Darren) Shepherd, Vivian (Bruce) Farnsworth, John Sinfield, and Rebecca (Brad) Smith, 22 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and counting.
Our Family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Aimee and the staff at Beehive Homes of Syracuse. You gave her care that we were no longer able to provide and allowed us to enjoy our mom in a calm, peaceful and loving environment.
Services will be held October 6, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Lund, Nevada. A viewing will be held at 10:00 am followed by a family prayer with services at 11:00.
