With heavy hearts, we announce that Bennie Reilley Jr. was called home by the Creator unexpectedly on February 26th, 2025, at the age of 44. Born on October 4th, 1980, in Ely, Bennie was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend. He lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and love, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.
Bennie grew up in Ely and graduated from White Pine High School in 1999 before attending college in Reno. A proud Native American and true outdoorsman at heart, he found his greatest joy in nature—whether it was hunting, fishing, or trapping. He carried the traditions of his ancestors with him, respecting the land and wildlife as sacred gifts. He found peace in the mountains, wisdom in the rivers, and strength in the open skies.
Bennie’s love for the outdoors was more than a passion—it was a way of life. He honored the old ways, teaching others the importance of respect for nature, patience in the hunt, and gratitude for what the land provided. Whether tracking game in the high desert, setting traps in the winter snow, or fishing beneath a painted Nevada sunset, he was most at home under the vast, open sky.
Beyond his love for nature, Bennie was a dedicated athlete and competitor. He had a passion for softball, playing horseshoes, and shooting, and he never missed a chance to enjoy these pastimes with friends and family. Whether on the field, at the range, or in a friendly horseshoe match, he played with skill, determination, and a contagious enthusiasm.
He had numerous friends from different areas and walks of life, forming lasting bonds through sports, the outdoors, and his fun-loving spirit. No matter where life took him, he made lifelong friendships and was always ready to share a laugh, a story, or a game. His infectious smile and personality made him unforgettable, and he will leave a lasting mark on all those who had the privilege of crossing his path.
One thing was certain—Bennie was a die-hard Raiders fan. Whether watching the game, wearing his favorite Raiders gear, or talking about the team, he never missed a chance to represent his love for the Silver & Black.
He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Reilley; his sisters, Mitzi Reilley and Rebecca (Sonny) Munoz; his cherished nieces, Brittany and Santana; and nephews, Sonny Jr., Hunter, and Isaac. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Reilley Sr.; his sister, Patty Ann Reilley; his paternal grandparents, Patty (Jack) George and George Reilley; and his maternal grandparents, Fred (Eva) Thompson; and his loyal dog, Wete, who was not only his best friend but also his outdoor partner. Though they have all journeyed beyond this life, the love they shared with Bennie will continue to guide and watch over those who knew and loved him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 7th, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Mountain Vista Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 8th, at 11:00 AM at Ward Mountain Campground A (Murray Summit), with burial to follow at the Ely Cemetery. Dinner will be held after the burial at the Ely Bristlecone Convention Center.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Bennie’s journey is not over. He will continue his adventures in the Spirit World, where the rivers flow endlessly, and the fish and animals are always plentiful. His spirit will roam free in the mountains, forever hunting beneath the open sky, casting his fishing line into the endless waters, and finding peace in the land he loved so deeply. His laughter, kindness, and adventurous soul will remain forever in our hearts.
