BLM Ely District offers firewood for sale

September 9, 2023 by Bristlecone Tribune Leave a Comment

ELY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management Ely District is offering cord units of mixed pinyon-juniper firewood to the public for $85 per cord. The firewood will be available for purchase by Monday, Sept. 11.

“The firewood was harvested as part of a landscape-scale habitat improvement and fuels reduction project that restores vegetative health and improves wildlife habitat while reducing catastrophic wildfire risk on public lands,” said Matt Rajala, BLM Ely District fire management specialist.

BLM is selling wood that has been cut and ready to load.

The wood is cut in rounds that vary in length from approximately 12-20 inches and in diameter from 3-36 inches. It has been recently cut (green) and is stacked in one-cord piles along two-track roads. The exact location(s) will be made available upon purchase of permit.

Purchasers are limited to five cords until September 25. The BLM may make additional cords available after September 25, provided any wood remains. Purchasers are responsible for loading and removal. Removal will be allowed between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, Sept. 20-24, and Sept. 27-Oct. 1. Purchasers must specify which day they will pick up their purchase. Members of White Pine High School’s Bobcat and Ladycat fall sports programs will be available on select days to load the purchased firewood as a fundraising effort with all proceeds going directly to the participating teams. Details will be at the Ely District Office upon request.

Permits are available between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the BLM Ely District Office, 702 North Industrial Way, in Ely.

For more information, call the BLM Ely District Office at (775) 289-1800.
