It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Brodey Lee Hutchinson, of Preston, Nevada. He left us suddenly on August 24, 2023. Brodey was born November 25, 2009 to Joshua Lee and Danalynn (Halstead) Hutchinson in Ely, Nevada, completing their family of three. His arrival being so near Thanksgiving, earned him the nickname “Turkey Lee”.
Brodey grew up in the dirt, playing with bugs, making mud, and causing all the mischief that little boys do. He attended elementary and middle school in Lund, Nevada. He was on the basketball team, proudly representing the Lund Mustangs, like his mom did. He enjoyed playing sports and always had an athletic knack.
He loved working on trucks and equipment with his dad. He loved working cattle, branding, and riding horses with his family and close friends. He enjoyed farming, hunting, the outdoors, riding his side by side, and spending time with his friends. He found happiness in music. Whether it was the latest Miley Cyrus or classic Chris Ledoux, he was turning it up. He was a member of the 4H and took pride in his market animal each year. He knew what it took to care for an animal and to help see it through to its full potential. This spilled over into what truly called to him, rodeo.
Brodey loved rodeo. He loved the excitement, the challenge, the grit and determination it demanded, the commitment and dedication it required, but most of all, he loved the second family it gave him. As a member of the White Pine Jr/High School Rodeo Team, Brodey excelled in each of his events a little at a time; team roping, chute dogging, goat tying, and breakaway roping; winning awards and placing his way into event finals and special competition rodeos. He always had a smile for everyone, even strangers. He was funny and silly, making his friends laugh. His signature aviator sunglasses and his GQ poses were a source of good-hearted banter and they were “him”. People were drawn to him. He was respectful and would lend a hand when needed. His absence creates a huge hole in the rodeo community he leaves behind.
Brodey is survived by his loving parents, his maternal grandparents; Danny (Renee Lane) Halstead and Joycelyn Halstead, his paternal grandparents; Rance and Teresa Hutchinson, his grandparents by choice; Cachu and Lulu Melendez , his aunts and uncles; Echo & Tony Marich, Jaramie & Jessica Hutchinson, Kyle & Rakira Hutchinson, Cody & Kate Adams, Riley & Tami Hutchinson, cousins; Tenley, Tailyn, Kalley, Kadyn, Paityn, Prestyn, Stetson, Axle, Taliah, & Mallory and more friends than he ever realized.
Although we know the pastures he rides now are greener, we will miss our cowboy beyond measure. His absence leaves a void that will never be filled. Yet amidst our sadness, we can’t help but also feel so much gratitude for the time we had. He shared so much of himself in his short time here, his impact has sent ripples that will flow endlessly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the White Pine County Fairgrounds in Ely, NV at 11AM (Grandstand/concession area). All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the “Brodey Hutchinson Scholarship Fund” at the First National Bank of Ely, so that his legacy and memory may live on.
My condolences.
