On Memorial Day in 1988, Classic Air Medical (CAM) officially began with one helicopter, a pilot and a medical crew of two basic level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). In the beginning, Classic Air Medical started as a seasonal service to assist the National Park Service in transporting the ill and injured from Lake Powell to capable medical facilities. CAM has developed extensively since the beginning and continues to progress and improve along with this rapidly evolving industry. The White Pine Chamber of Commerce is proud to call Classic Medical Air a partner in the effort to improve the quality of life for residents in White Pine County.
Classic is headquartered in North Salt Lake, Utah, with additional bases in Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. In 2021, Classic was acquired by Intermountain Healthcare, a Utah-based, not-for-profit system of 33 hospitals, a medical group with more than 3,800 physicians, and advanced practice clinicians at about 385 clinics, a health plans division called SelectHealth, and other health services including Intermountain Life Flight – another highly-specialized air medical transport organization. Helping people live the healthiest lives possible, Intermountain is widely recognized as a leader in clinical quality improvement and efficient healthcare delivery.
MedX AirOne has been serving Ely and the White Pine region since 2019 and has been supporting the Chamber of Commerce as a member for just as long. This partnership between organizations has enabled the growth of programs, development of connections, and enhanced experiences for the entire network of Chamber Members. Classic Air Medical will continue to provide the county and our residents the same high quality care in their most serious time of need, and the Chamber will continue to support them in their endeavors to add to the diverse fabric of White Pine.
