A rousing round of applause for the Best of White Pine Award WINNERS! This past Friday, the Bristlecone Convention Center was packed with White Pine Chamber members, business owners, community organizers, and White Pine’s “best” who came out to support their favorite nominees in thirty categories. Leaders across a plethora of industries walked away with awards and trophies, not to mention bragging rights, for their contributions to the enhancement of our quality of life here in White Pine.
The White Pine Chamber of Commerce is proud to host this event that supports small businesses through this seasonal ceremony encouraging friendly competition and community engagement. These awarded certificates represent thousands of votes from loyal patrons and satisfied customers that are collected throughout the Shop Small Shop Local Holiday season. The second time putting on this event saw a dramatic increase through an online entry form, totalling close to 9,000 individual votes. Created by Teresa Stewart, Shadrach Robertson, Shari Gilson, and KayLynn Roberts McMurry at the old Ely Times in 2019, the contest was interrupted by Covid. After taking over the Chamber, I combined forces with Teresa at the Bristlecone Tribune to bring the competition back to benefit the members and advertising businesses that drive our local economy.
Each business promoting and marketing themselves on the local radio or in the Bristlecone Tribune saw increased votes in their favor and after winning, now have the ability to further advertise their accomplishment from a competition that is truly community driven. The 2024 Best of White Pine Contest is underway – with each business encouraged to put on their best all year, to generate better services, offer better products, and up their game, to earn the votes from the public come November through December. We saw new businesses break into this year’s winner’s circle, and the White Pine Chamber of Commerce is already looking to revamp the awards to include a Retailer of the Year and Best Non-Profit for Best of White Pine 2024.
Chamber members can also look forward to a brand new featured service coming this year in time for the Shop Small Shop Local season, as we have begun building a printed Members Directory with a special holiday insert. In the meantime, get out there and shop local all year long, and visit these Best of White Pine service providers to compare and contrast your experiences so you can vote during the Best of White Pine Contest.
