Spring has Sprung. Snow Birds are shaking off the cold, and tourists are beginning to migrate into White Pine. While those from out of the area seek local adventures and points of interest, we residents have a close and not so far away spot to travel to, to get away for a while, to unwind, relax, reconnect, and see the other side of White Pine.
Baker is a quick and scenic jaunt to the East. With eateries as well as the Bristlecone General Store & Stargazer Inn, you can bet there’s a fun and inviting recreational activity to pique your curiosity, creativity, and culinary interests! April is a busy month for one of Baker’s favorite destination locations. If you have been looking for a change of pace, an easy road trip, or an excuse to do something new… April in Baker is your month.
- On the 7th, visit and meet with Author Suzanne Morgan Williams. From 5:30 to 7:30 the Bristlecone General Store will host a FREE writer’s workshop.
- On the 12th, Bristlecone General Store is hosting their already famous Pizza Night from 4-7pm.
- On the 13th, Get into the night air and take in the starriest skies in the western US as the team at the Bristlecone General Store lead a Full Moon Hike.
- On the 25th, University of Nevada-Reno Researcher Ally Coconis will present on Packrats and the ecological biotic changes to the Great Basin over thousands of years in an evening education program that is sure to pique quite a lot of interest. This discussion starts at 7:00 pm.
- On the 26th, Come for the Crepes, stay for the Community. The Baker Community Large Yard Sale from 8-noon will be held and is sure to please.
- On the 27th, Literary enthusiasts will want to get into the discussion on the latest in the Bristlecone General Store’s Book Club. The conversation on Sapien: A Brief History of Human Kind starts at 2:00pm.
Later in the calendar, Plan a Stay-cation – a close vacation in Baker is out of the way enough to enjoy the luxuries of being close while still being able to escape the normal ruts and routines. Hike Great Basin, see the oldest trees in the world, glacier-fed lakes, scenic drives, leaf peeping, bird watching, star gazing, and getting pampered in nature.
