Chamber Highlight: –Economic Growth Potential–

The Regional Planning Committee will be holding a public hearing in the conference room of the White Pine County Library on April 17th, at 5:30 pm, to discuss and vote on a proposal to amend the City of Ely’s Redevelopment Map. This amendment to the Redevelopment Zones in the City of Ely’s boundaries will enable the addition of major commercial property zones that are currently not included.

Adding the proposed sections of Aultman, East Aultman, and Great Basin commercial zones that are currently undeveloped will allow the utilization of Redevelopment funds to go towards supporting reinvigoration, renovation, rehabilitation, and greater property value to the main streets that generate the majority of commercial activity in the city. Property owners and residents in the proposed redevelopment districts have already been contacted via mail through the City of Ely’s efforts to include all interested parties. Public comments for any and all that may be impacted by the inclusion of additional commercial zones are encouraged to attend the meeting.
The Redevelopment zones identified under the Redevelopment Mapping have access to funding for commercial, residential, and facade improvements. By expanding the commercial zones to include more of Aultman, East Aultman, and Great Basin Blvd., will allow many additional property owners, businesses, residents, and entrepreneurs to utilize the Redevelopment funding for projects that can improve commerce in the city limits.

The White Pine Chamber of Commerce supports the inclusivity of the proposed commercial zones. By adding sections of the city that centralize the commerce, the beneficiaries of Redevelopment funding can be greater, serve more residents, and improve the community through directing Redevelopment funds to where they need to go. Removing blighted property, cleaning up unused lots, repairing structures, encouraging investment in existing buildings, supporting renovation projects, and generating economic activity through contracted building construction, remodeling, and development.

Written submission of public comments becomes part of the public record and must be made prior to 5:00 pm on April 16th.

The Redevelopment Map was created twenty years ago, specifically to inject supportive capital into the commercial and residential centers of Ely. We applaud the efforts of the Ely City Council and Building Department, and the Regional Planning Committee, in their pursuit of supporting enhancements to a program designed to foster economic growth right here in the heart of the Great Basin.
