Dee “Punk” Heckethorn passed away surrounded by family, on January 1st, 2024. Punk was born on July 1st, 1945, in Ely, NV to Dee W and Thelma Heckethorn.
Punk married Edna J. Mayhew and together they had three beautiful children. Two daughters, Billie Sue Heckethorn and Jodene Heckethorn Jacobson, and a son Guy Heckethorn.
Punk was known for his outspokenness, big heart, and his feisty personality. He loved being a rancher on his family’s ranch, the Heckethorn Ranch. Punk loved to hunt and would help anyone out that wanted to hunt with him. Punk was an excellent pilot and loved to fly. The Heckethorn Ranch was sold in 1973, he then went on to work for NDOT for a few years. Punk then purchased Majors Place where he entertained an array of people for many years. Punk then moved into town in 1989 and worked in the local mines until 2014. Punk then worked with Rural US Mail for a local contractor, delivering packages and mail to the locals until he retired in 2017.
Punk is preceded in death by his parents, Dee W. and Thelma Heckethorn, his brothers Gene D. Heckethorn, and Dale Heckethorn, and his twin sister, Diane Heckethorn Doutre. He is survived by his children, Billie Sue Heckethorn (Jim), Jodene Heckethorn Jacobson, and Guy Heckethorn (Tami), and his grandchildren Austin Heckethorn, Hana Heckethorn, Lindsey Jacobson, Shay Heckethorn, and Laryssia Jacobson. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at 11am, at the Mt. Vista Chapel Mortuary, followed by a luncheon at the Ely’s Elk Lodge. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of “Punk” for the Dee W. Heckethorn scholarship fund.
