Diesel Technology program returns to Great Basin College

August 7, 2023 by Bristlecone Tribune Leave a Comment

Great Basin College – Ely Center is excited to announce the return of GBC’s Diesel Technology Program. The Diesel Technology Program offers students the education necessary to excel as diesel technicians in a variety of occupations. The Diesel technology graduate will have the skills to maintain all types of equipment; repair and maintain mine-related equipment including surface, underground, and exploration equipment. They will also learn to repair and maintain over-the-road trucks; work for dealerships and factories performing field work and/or component rebuilding; or work in related fields such as parts supply, warehousing, equipment sales and customer relations. The Diesel Technology Program includes hands-on study, introduction to heavy equipment technology, schematics, electrical/electronic theory, interpersonal communications, and repair of hydraulic systems.

Through a wonderful partnership with White Pine High School, GBC’s program is housed in their Career and Technical building and accepts both high school and traditional students. The Diesel Technology Program, along with GBC’s Nursing and Electrical Systems Technology programs, provide training and education for local employment opportunities.

Great Basin College continues to work with local industry partners by providing well-educated employees and in turn, they support programs by offering unique hands-on learning paid internships and scholarships for those that qualify. One of the main supporters, KGHM Robinson Mine, has employee programs that allow employees to work, attend classes, and take advantage of paid tuition/reimbursement.

Those interested in this year’s cohort for the Diesel Technology and Electrical Systems Technology programs need to apply and enroll soon as classes begin in August.

For more information and to take advantage of these incredible workforce and educational opportunities, call 775-327-5350 or come into Great Basin College Ely Center at 2115 Bobcat Drive. Enroll now!
