Ely’s Central Theatre has come through in a BIG way. The community asked for “SOUND OF FREEDOM”, and the Purintons’, who own the local show house, didn’t disappoint! So, mark your calendars, tell everyone you know about the movie, and save room for the best popcorn in town. Beginning Friday July 21st show times are as follows: Fri.-Sun. matinees at 2 p.m. along with the usual 7 p.m. viewings, and each night thereafter at 7 p.m. running thru Thursday July 27th (PG rating).
Mel Gibson’s SOUND OF FREEDOM is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former Department of Homeland Security special agent who devoted himself to fighting child sex trafficking, and who took his crusade private when he founded Operation Underground Railroad with backing from Glenn Beck. The film was released on July 4, 2023 by Angel Studios, and has grossed $85 million worldwide against a $14.5 million budget.
The movie takes-on a Christian undertone as Jim Caviezel, “The Passion of the Christ”, graces the screen as Ballard who explains why he’s fixated on the crime of trafficking. “Because God’s children are not for sale.” A movie like “Sound of Freedom” is to sound an alarm in a way that only a dramatic film can do. Child trafficking is the fastest growing international criminal network the world has ever seen.
An epilogue states that Tim Ballard testified before the United States Congress, and that his testimony resulted in laws being passed that require the U.S. Government to cooperate with foreign countries on sex trafficking investigations. It also claims that there are more people enslaved today than in any other time in history, including when slavery was legal. And the nightmare lived by captured children is unspeakable, unimaginable, and all too real.”
