Ely Children’s Community Theater will conduct auditions for their upcoming Comedy Mystery play. Acting roles, for all experience and skill levels, are available for students from Kindergarten through high school, as well as younger preschool children. In addition to children’s acting parts families (e.g. non-acting siblings and parents) are encouraged to participate in production roles, including set construction, costuming, musicians, lighting and sound technicians, fundraising, acting coaches and backstage crew.
Drop in auditions will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on December 1, 2024 and from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on December 2, 2024. A drop in audition means the actor will not need to be present for the entirety of the two hour sessions and, instead, the audition should take approximately 30 minutes. Actors trying out for a larger role should come prepared to recite or perform a short (approximately 1 minute) poem or monologue. Parts are available for all skill levels, with beginner and first timer actors encouraged to participate the more experienced regular performers. While not every actor can play a leading role, Ely Children’s Community Theater makes every effort to ensure each child who auditions will have a chance to be seen on stage, even those who do not want to speak, sing or dance and only want to play a rock.
Rehearsals will start in January and occur 2-3 times per week until the performances, with additional rehearsals and preparations as needed. Performances will take place on March 15, 16, 22 and 23, 2024. All rehearsals and performances will take place at Ely United Methodist Church (1100 South Pioche Hwy).
Theater provides many benefits to both children and adults. Learning lines instills discipline and commitment, while acting on stage builds confidence and an ability to speak lucidly, clearly and thoughtfully, in public. Taking on a role develops empathy and the ability to envision new possibilities and see alternative perspectives. Theater activities have also been shown to have a positive effect on mental health.
Ely Children’s Community Theater is a non-profit ministry of the Ely United Methodist Church. Past productions included full Broadway musicals, Shakespeare and Halloween radio plays. Sponsors and supporters have included Pattern Energy, Robinson Nevada Mining Company, KDSS 92.7 fm, Inline Studios, Ely Rotary, Ely Lions, Beta Sigma Phi and Economy Drug.
