It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Ernestina “Tina” Manzonie, who peacefully passed away receiving her wings on February 26th and is on her journey home.
Tina was a lifetime resident of Ely and Currant Creek, Nevada. Born on November 13, 1943 in Kimberly, Nevada to Trinidad and Eva B. Sandoval. The family settled in Riepetown and later in Ely. Tina attended Ruth grade school and graduated from White Pine High School with the class of 1961.
After high school, she married Rudolfo (Rudy) F. Gonzales and lived in McGill then Ely where they raised their family.
She was a wonderful, devoted Mother setting her priorities on raising her two girls. She enjoyed watching them grow and having families of their own.
Once her daughters reached high school age, she began working at the Nevada Unemployment Office and later joined the staff at Bath Lumber for five years in the old downtown location and then later took part in the moving and opening of their current location in East Ely.
She later started taking classes at Great Basin Community College. During this time, she worked briefly for UPS and then rejoined the group at Nevada Job Connect as an Employment Specialist and worked until her 30-year retirement in November 2015. It was important for her to reach this significant seniority milestone; she was proud of her work and her family was, too. She travelled all around the state as part of her job assignment and her dedication to her job and the community never went unnoticed. She will be remembered fondly by the many people she helped throughout her career.
Tina found her soulmate in John (Denny) Manzonie whom she married in January, 2001. In total they were together over 30 years. There was a sign in their home that read “Behind every successful Rancher is a wife that works in town” They built a beautiful life together. Their Catholic faith and commitment to one another was evident to all who knew them. We take solace knowing they’ve been reunited again. Denny was promised that when the time came, they both would be together again in Currant Creek. That promise will be kept.
Tina loved to cook and entertain especially during the holidays. Her annual 4th of July BBQ and gathering got bigger with each passing year. Even after she moved to her new home, everyone followed. It was happy times shared with family and friends for locals, as well as out of town guests.
Tina was a remarkable woman whose strength, kindness, and unwavering love will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves a legacy of family, faith, and community that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lisa (Stephen) Dunton of The Woodlands, Texas and Vicki (Tim) Crawford of Ely. Grandchildren Tony Guidara, Angela Dunn, Megan Dunn Crawford, Ashley Dunton, and Nicole (Braden) Bowles, Great Granddaughter Blair Morgan Bowles and many beloved Nieces and Nephews.
She was one of six children and the oldest daughter who later in life became the Matriarch of the family. She is survived by siblings Richard Marquez (Ely, Nevada), Mingo (Sheila) Sandoval (Las Vegas, Nevada), and Angie Mason (Las Vegas, Nevada).
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John (Denny) Manzonie; Brother Isidro Sandoval, Sister Erlinda Cooper. Brother-in-laws, Jack Mason and Albert Cooper. Marie Kalleres and Freddy Garcia.
The Family is grateful for the outpouring of love and sympathy. We wish to thank Dr. Shiver Patel and the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah for their compassionate care; and the staff at William Bee Ririe Hospital in Ely. We would like to thank Father Elias Kabuk and Sister Sandy for their weekly visits, bringing her communion.
Recitation of the Rosary at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be on Thursday, March 6th, 10:30 am. with Holy Mass to follow at 11:00
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
