The City of Ely voted to confirm Mayor Nathan Robinson’s appointment of Matt Hibbs as Municipal Court judge. The mayor stated that he consulted with District Court Judge Steve L. Dobrescu to come up with a list of possible appointees, and while the position is a part-time position, it requires no other employment in the legal field. While Hibbs is not an attorney, he does have 30 years of service in law enforcement with the Nevada Department of Investigations and with Parole and Probation. As Mayor Robertson mentioned, Municipal Judges don’t have to be lawyers. Hibbs was confirmed by the council unanimously.
In other council news, the council approved a liquor licence to Tajinder Singh for The Village Liquor Mart to be located in the old Andersons Foodtown, approved a Proclamation Declaring April 25, 2025 Arbor Day in the City of Ely, with a tree planting to be held in coordination with the White Pine County School District, and a of Proclamation Celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week April 13 to the 19th.
The Council is scheduled to meet again on April 24.
