On May 29th, 2023 Memorial Day, the community gathered at Veteran’s Park in front of the old Courthouse to remember those who have fallen in battle for our country, who never made it out of uniform. The Community Choir sang beautifully while the Cheat Grass Brass Band played the music during the ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Knights of Columbus stood proud next to the band and the War Memorial, Nathan Robertson, Mayor of the City of Ely, addressed the crowd that had gathered around for the ceremony, Commander, Ken Curto gave the Memorial Day Address. Of course, there was the traditional wreath laying in front of the War Memorial by the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
To conclude the ceremony, the American Legion and VFW finished it off with the traditional 21 gun salute and Taps performed by Andy Bath and a closing prayer by the American Legion Chaplain, Andre Paez.
This Memorial Day tribute is always a beautiful and somber way of honoring our fallen heroes.
