Janice Gubler Willfong passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 25, 2023.
Janice was born on June 10, 1935, in Ely, Nevada to Kathryn Harrison and Ernest Gubler.
Janice married James Joynes Smedley on September 18, 1953. Together they had a daughter, Jennifer. After James’s death, Janice later married Carl Willfong on October 30, 1955, and together they had a son, Louis.
Janice was known for her warm kindness, laughter, and hospitality. She had a great love of cooking. Her kitchen was always open to everyone — family, friends, or strangers. Her sugar cookies became a Halloween tradition for trick-or-treaters.
She spent her life helping her family run the EH Gubler Ranch and cooking for the ranch hands. She also spent about ten years as a florist at Flowers Unlimited in Ely. Janice served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Known as everyone’s grandma, she will be missed by many. Janice is survived by her sister Pamela Smart (Dave); children Jennifer Camp and Louis Carl Willfong (Linda); granddaughters Amanda VanBeekum (Gerrit), Rebecca Jenson (Daren), and Courtney McKinnon (James); great-grandchildren Will, Shane, Jessica, and Amelia Jenson and Elise and Rylee VanBeekum; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lund. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
