KELY Radio back on air in time for Christmas Eve Shows

A quick note to our listeners.

Due to a power surge, KELY Radio was off the air from November 26 until December 12. This was the first failure of our solid state transmitter in 18 years. Fortunately, our hard working engineer Joe Sands made it up as soon as he could to get us back on the air.

Joe rearranged his schedule to drive up to Ely, then drove back to Vegas and back to get a power supply to get us back on the air! While having lunch at the best burger place in Ely, he affirmed what I said in a recent Facebook commentary. Every day, the lack of people wanting to get into trades is shocking. Finding good plumbers, mechanics, electricians is getting to be a massive challenge. Getting people to do the work is nearly impossible. He told the head of engineering for a major broadcasting chain that he can’t hire anyone under the age of 50. Because they’re all going into college path careers, not into electronics. Parents, tell your kids that the most lucrative – and most economical – path to a career does NOT involve a college degree, but into a trade.

Now to something more positive.

As is our custom, Christmas Eve KELY will feature great old time radio shows from Noon until 10pm. The special presentation will feature some of the greatest Christmas themed shows of all time and is sponsored exclusively by Mount Wheeler Power. The shows will include It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, and Miracle on 34th Street along with Christmas episodes of Jack Benny, Dragnet, Our Miss Brooks. Abbott and Costello, and more.
