On February 6th the Lund Mustangs traveled to Eureka for a division game. The Lady Mustangs fell behind early in the first quarter. In the second quarter the Vandals held the Mustangs to only one basket, ending the half 10 to 41. Coming out after the half, the Lady Mustangs still seemed to be struggling with their shots while the Vandals offense slowed down also. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs defense held strong, only allowing 8 points, but the Vandals had already run away with the game. The Lady Mustangs suffered the loss 60-20.
The Mustang boys knew this was going to be a hard game, with Eureka leading the division and sending every team in the division home with a loss. The first quarter of the game, the Mustangs started out strong only down by staying within 2 baskets. The second quarter, the Mustangs got within 3 points, but the Vandals combination of a successful full court press and multiple 3-point shots they pulled widened their lead at the end of the half 42- 24. The third quarter the Mustangs were held to 4 points, 2 points coming from foul shots by Parker Rosenlund and a basket by Travis Rimington. The fourth quarter was the nail in the coffin for the Mustangs, heading home with a devastating loss, 78 to 36. High scorers were Parker Rosenlund with 17 points and Kasen Hardy with 9.
The Lund Mustangs hosted their last division home game of the season against the McDermott Bulldogs. The Lady Mustangs went basket for basket to start the first quarter. By the second it looked to be a tight game. In the third the Lady Mustangs started running out of steam. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs pulled a huge lead. The Lady Mustangs fell to the Bulldogs 82 to 42.
The Mustangs boys started out strong on defense in the first quarter holding the Bulldogs to 5 points. The second quarter the Mustangs extended their lead 20 points at the end of the half. The third quarter the Mustangs showed just how powerful their defense is, holding the Bulldogs to 1 point. The fourth quarter it was clear the Mustangs had it in the bag, finishing with a win 59 to 21. It was a night of 3-pointers by multiple players: Peyton Sabaitis, Riley Hardy and Parker Roseland with two, and Kasen Hardy, Travis Rimington and Heston Rimington with one each.
