Ladycat Softball extends win streak to six behind doubleheader sweep against Lions

White Pine takes down Awaken Christian 6-4 and 7-1 to get back to .500 and move to 4-2 in league.

For the first time in 2A South league play, Ladycat Softball was on the winning side of two tight ball games against Awaken Christian on the road in Las Vegas.
That helped White Pine even their overall record at 9-9 and move to 4-2 in league.

In the first game, the Ladycats put together a five-run comeback effort in the top of the seventh inning to win 6-4. Senior Gianna Sedlacek went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. In addition, junior Presley Skadburg went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, and an RBI.

White Pine head coach Joe Sedlacek stuck with sophomore Paige Hayward, who earned the win while going the distance. She pitched all seven innings and allowed four hits, one earned run, two walks, and struck out nine in 113 pitches.

That comeback victory has the opportunity to fuel this team down the stretch, giving them that feeling of resilience.

After both teams each scored a run in the first inning, Awakened Christian scored twice in the fifth and another in the sixth before the White Pine team struck its magic.
The strong pitching continued into the second game as Gianna Sedlacek matched Hayward by throwing a complete game, allowing four hits and an earned run to fuel White Pine to a 7-1 victory to cap off the doubleheader sweep.

In the circle, Gianna Sedlacek gave up three walks but struck out six hitters on just 87 pitches to earn the win.

Offensively, Skadburg and fellow sophomore Layla Ruesch both recorded two hits. The latter also scored two runs. Skadburg’s sister, Presley, a junior, also scored twice in a 1-for-4 performance at the plate. Sedlacek also had a game-high two RBIs in a 1-for-3 effort with a stolen base.

As of April 7, Sedlacek ranks third in the 2A South with a .529 batting average. She also leads the league with a 3.54 earned run average.

Both Sedlacek and Hayward are tied for fourth in the league with 32 strikeouts.

With the two victories, White Pine extends its winning streak to six after losing nine straight games.

Now the Ladycats turn their attention to hosting Laughlin on April 11 for a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
