Ladycat Softball struggles against 2A South opponent Lincoln, sweeps Wells

White Pine softball has had an edge over Lincoln over the last few years, including winning a thriller to reach the 2A South championship game that went nine innings.
However, this time against Lincoln County was a different story.

White Pine faced the Lynx for its first taste of 2A South league action this season in a two-game doubleheader.

The Ladycats allowed a nine-run fifth inning in the first game and a seven-run fourth inning in the second game to lose 18-8 in both games. White Pine also committed a combined 10 errors between both games.

In the first game, White Pine scored three times in the bottom of the fourth inning to get within two runs before Lincoln County ballooned the lead. Eight of the 18 runs White Pine allowed were unearned, as a result of four defensive miscues.

Offensively, senior Gianna Sedlacek went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple and a stolen base while sophomore Adelaide Costello went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double.

In the second game, that one bad inning in the fourth turned out to be too much. However, after Lincoln scored seven runs in the fourth, the Ladycats immediately responded by putting up six runs to get back in the game.
It ultimately was not enough as Lincoln County had scored four runs in both the third and fifth innings.

Sedlacek and junior Cecilia Barbosa each went 2-for-2 offensively. In addition, senior Kendra Derbidge launched a three-run home run in a 1-for-3 performance.
Despite losing both games to Lincoln County, White Pine had to turn the page with another doubleheader the next morning against non-league Wells.
That page was definitely turned as the Ladycats secured the doubleheader sweep against the Leopards, winning 14-2 and 16-2 through both games.
In the first game, White Pine scored seven runs in the first inning and took a 9-0 lead after two innings. They then posted five runs in the fourth before closing out the game.
Barbosa went 2-for-2 with a triple, four RBIs and two walks in the win. Both Sedlacek and sophomore Layla Ruesch also garnered two hits each. Sedlacek also recorded a triple and posted two RBIs.
Sedlacek and sophomore Paige Hayward pitched in the circle. Hayward worked the first three innings, allowing two hits, one run, one walk while striking out six. Then Sedlacek came in and also gave up two hits and a run while walking three and striking out three to close the game in the fourth inning.
In the second game, White Pine took advantage of a seven-run first inning and a nine-run second to cruise to a 16-2 victory.
White Pine put together 10 hits while committing just one error.
Overall, Sedlacek has raised her batting up to .542 as a result of getting a hit in seven of her last eight at-bats this week. Her batting average is tied with Barbosa as both are hitting 13-for-24 this season.
Up next, the Ladycats travel to Green Valley Christian for a doubleheader on March 28 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. before traveling to Awaken for another doubleheader on April 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
