As we celebrate the 4th of July all of us need to reflect on why we recognize and celebrate this important holiday in this Nation. There is not a day that passes in which some individual and or politician does not flaunt the law that we all are supposed to abide by.
At the WP County Commission meeting held back on March 22, 2023, Chairman Shane Bybee had me removed from the County Commission Meeting while I was asking for public information. Bybee’s failure to reply and his intense focus on limiting public information to a citizen is a classic example of Good Ole Boy syndrome. As I walked away from the podium I asked if I could get any answers. District Attorney Beecher (Bybee’s cousins’ husband) stated if I didn’t sit down I would be removed from the meeting. I stated address the issues and moved to my seat. Chairman Bybee then said “One more time, George…No?… I was hoping.” After a couple of seconds I asked him “Why do you do that?” and immediately was gaveled, and Shane had the Sheriff remove me from the meeting.
Power hungry individuals have no business in public office and if they miss six or more consecutive meetings because of alcohol and or drug abuse, then they absolutely have no business in public office!
At a different County Commission meeting recently, I informed the County Commissioners that their District Attorneys’ Office presented NRS 281A.4.20 to me at a recent Regional Planning Commission meeting. The NRS deals with conflicts of interest and family relationships. Chairman Bybee and the District Attorney have not disclosed their family relationships at all when County matters come up.
Arrogant and prejudiced individuals are not limited to just one segment of government. At the Ely City Council meeting held on June 22, 2023, the Council voted to hire an appraiser for sale or lease of city property. The City has no business competing against the private sector when there is property available. The City has no right to financially kill present property owners that are not allowed to use or rent their property as others do. I reminded Mayor Robertson that Councilman Alworth stated at a previous Ely City Council meeting that he knew of one individual that had 30 properties but would not sell them. I told the Mayor that I have repeatedly asked for the name of the person that Alworth was talking about in a public meeting. The City has no right to force a person to sell his or her property.
Council persons should not mislead or LIE to those that they supposedly represent. Blatant discrimination needs to be stopped….Rules, Regulations, and Laws pertain to everyone or they do not pertain to anyone!!
These topics are covered in the Bristlecone Tribune or for those on Facebook. “White Pine County News” has been created for those wishing to view public meetings as presented and without being edited.
