This past weekend Lund held their annual Pioneer Days. The weekend went off without a hitch. The gymkhana offered fun for all ages with prizes and all-around buckles. At the Friday night rodeo they had a tribute for the late hometown cowboy Brodey Hutchinson and presented a plaque to Kim and Annie Bennett. The Bennetts have been a part of the Lund Rodeo for years, with Kim being the voice of the Rodeo for over 2 decades, before retiring from the Rodeo last year. Kids ran after sheep in the arena, trying their hardest to get a ribbon that would earn them money in the cash sheep while the crowd watched in entertainment.
The following morning runners got up early to compete in the annual 5k. After the 5k the crowds gathered with their trucks and chairs to watch the parade before heading to the square for the program and BBQ. Kids played on bounce houses and in the water on the grass while adults played in the horseshoe tournament. Then it was off to the second night of the rodeo.
The weather for both evenings of the rodeo was perfect, with clouds dropping the hot temperature, making it ideal for the contestants and the audience. The second night of the rodeo a tribute was held for the late hometown missionary Jake Kessler and plaques were presented to Roy and Ronnie Horsley. Roy and Richard are retiring from the Rodeo club after almost 2 decades of service on the board. The Rodeo came to a close with their annual Ranch Bronc Ride Off. The weekend went out with a BANG, ending with an amazing fireworks show at the square.
