Michael Steve Pintar

Mike Pintar passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 doing what he loved, riding in his side-by-side up in the mountains.

Michael Steve Pintar was born on May 21, 1959, arriving minutes before his twin brother Marko, to parents Steve and Margie Crook Pintar in Ely, Nevada. The twins would be welcomed back home in Pioche, NV by sister Rebecca Bartlett and brother Robert O. Bartlett where they would reside until October 1960 when the family moved to the Kirch Wildlife Management area, in Sunnyside, NV.

The family would welcome Joseph “Jody” in October 1961, and happily live there until 1966 when the family moved into McGill, NV for Gramps’ employment with NDOW. It was instilled in Mike from a very young age to love being in the mountains hunting, fishing, and everything else about the great outdoors having often accompanying Gramps in his daily travels.

Mike attended elementary school through second grade in Lund, NV. Upon moving to McGill, he and Marko repeated second grade attending McGill Junior High School and Mike eventually graduated as his 8th grade class president. Mike attended White Pine High School where he participated in high school rodeo but his true passion was baseball; he played right field and had a very high batting average. Mike was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants and 49er’s fan!!!

Upon graduation, instead of pursuing his baseball aspirations, Mike gained employment with W & C Contractors, Ted Ciscar Plumbing, Christiansen Drilling, BLM fire crews, eventually landing at Amselco Mine; it was while he worked there that he met and married his first wife, Sherry Harris in July 1983.

Mike and Sherry raised four daughters together; Joni, Carri, Jamie and Jessica in McGill, eventually moving out at the ranch below the 50 Club. Mike shared this dream with Gramps and together they embraced the opportunity to be farmers. It was also during these years when he and Marko established M & M Pintar Guide Service. Mike and Sherry would later divorce in the spring of 1994, his girls moved to Elko and the guide service was closed. During this time, Mike worked for Placer Dome, traveled extensively for his employment with Energetic Solutions and finished his mining career with Homestake in Eureka.

In December of 1998, he married Sidney Fielding and gained two daughters, Amber and Nikki; this would complete his family. Mike was immensely blessed with six girls and even happier with the grandchildren they provided him, 18 in total!!! Together, Mike and Sid also took the opportunity to relaunch Pintar Outfitting and Guide Services because Mike absolutely loved hunting and being in the mountains.

Mike changed occupations in August 2000 and began his second career, outside of mining, when he went to work for Nevada Department of Transportation. In March of 2012, Mike suffered a debilitating stroke which would end his service with NDOT. What didn’t end was Mike’s determination that he could do everything he wanted to do just like before; he never accepted the limitations that were thrust upon him due the complications from his stroke. Mike continued to hunt deer, elk and tag along on any sheep hunt he could with a generous amount of help from others.

Mike spent his last hours tootling around in the mountains 20 miles from where he told Marko he’d be. His last hours were spent in Berry Creek up by Deer Lodge. Given his avid love for his side-by-side adventures and his great appreciation for the mountains, he was where he wanted to be and as a family, we take comfort in knowing that.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sidney. Daughters Joni (Cody) Allen of Elko, Carri Henckel of Elko, Jamie (Al) Chavez of Las Vegas, Jesika (Gary) Lacey of Las Vegas, Amber (Jeremy) Bee of Lake Havasu, AZ, and Nikki (Chet) Gardner of Ely. Grandchildren Kady, Karlie, Kassie, Kourtney, Jaydien, Grey, TJ, Jayleen, Justaven, Anthony, Gavin, Gerelle, Amira, Tanner, Conner, Greyson, Ryker and Brynn. Mike is also survived by his brothers Marko Pintar, Joseph “Jody” (Kerri) Pintar, sister-in-law Gayle Bartlett and brother-in-law, Joe Humbert as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Margie C. Pintar, brother Robert O. Bartlett and sister Rebecca Humbert.

Please come and join us to celebrate a life well lived. Services will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the Ely Elks Lodge at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service. Private family internment will follow at a later date.
