Mustang hoops suffer season end loss

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Elko last Thursday to play their regional game against the Wells Jaguars. The first quarter the Mustangs were only able to score 6 points while allowing 19 to the Jaguars. The second quarter the Mustangs defense kicked in holding the Jaguars to only 10 points, but their offense had their worst quarter with only 3 points, headed to the half down by 20. Coming out after the half the Mustangs baskets started strong more than doubling their points from the first half, but they were unable to stop the Jaguars offensive momentum. The Mustangs ended their season with a hard loss to the Jaguars 59 to 32. Top scorers were Hayden Hendrix and Braidelyn Kesler both with 6 points.

Friday night the Mustang boys took on the Owyhee Braves for their regional game in Elko. The Mustangs started out cold, struggling in the first quarter but was able to maintain a close distance behind the Braves. The second quarter the Mustangs baskets just didn’t seem to be flowing, and it was clear with a half time score of 16 to 20 they were going to be playing catch up the rest of the game. Coming out of the locker room after the half the Mustangs were finally able to get their baskets going but shutting down the Braves main shooter continued to be an issue ending the third quarter 52 to 31. The last quarter the Mustangs boys played with all their heart, fighting to close the point gap. They gave it their all, but fell short in a devastating season end loss 55 to 51.
