The weekend of January 12th the Lund Mustangs traveled to Jackpot and Wells for away games. Fighting the snow to get to Jackpot that Friday the teams finally made it, with most of their fans having to reroute through Wendover as the road from Loggies to Wells was temporarily closed because of weather conditions.
The Lady Mustangs dominated the Jaguars early on, scoring 10 points in the first quarter while not allowing one basket. The Jaguars score their only basket of the half in the second quarter while the Lady Mustangs added three more points to the board. By the second half of the game the Lady Mustangs got on a roll and by the start of the fourth quarter, they were up by 20. The Lady Mustangs continued to climb while their defense excelled, ending with the win 31 to 8. Top scorers were Sara Irie with 10 points and Makenna Griffin with 8.
The Mustang Boys Varsity, missing one of their seniors because of an injury, had a much closer game. Starting out slow, the Mustangs fell behind in the first quarter with the Jaguars leading by 12 points. At the end of the half the Mustangs were catching up but were still down by two.
The Mustangs came out the second half with new purpose finally taking the lead by the end of the third quarter and after a nail bitting fourth, the Mustangs pulled out a win with 43-40. Top scorers were Parker Rosenlund with 23 points and Peyton Sabaitis with 7.
The next day the Lady Mustangs battled the Wells Leopards. The Lady Mustangs were held to two baskets in the first quarter as the Leopards defense held strong. The second quarter the Mustangs fell farther behind ending the half 26-12. The Mustangs came back fighting, doubling their score from the first half but were unable to hold the Leopards down, finishing the third quarter 40-26. The fourth quarter the Lady Mustangs could not catch up and suffered defeat with the Leopards taking the win 54-30.
The Mustang boys started out slow with a one point lead at the end of the first quarter. By the end of the half they were slowly increasing their lead at 36-29. Through the third quarter the Mustangs continued to dominate the Leopards finishing the quarter with a 16 point lead. Mustangs hung on to that lead, leaving with the win 70-54. Top scorers were Kasen Hardy with 26 points and Payton Sabaitis with 13.
