Mustangs host Bulldogs, but suffer losses

Last weekend the Lund Mustangs basketball teams hosted the McDermitt Bulldogs. The Lady Mustangs fell behind in the first quarter, only getting 6 points while allowing the Bulldogs to score 20. The second quarter they were able to hold the Bulldogs to only 12 points, but their buckets were still cold, only putting 6 more points on the board. Coming out of the second half, the Lady Mustangs were hoping to turn things around but were shot down at every step. They only scored a single bucket for the third quarter which also led to a running clock. The fourth was much of the same with the Lady Mustangs taking a beating and devastating loss 63 to 16. The top scorers were Hayden Hendrix and Kaylee Griffin with 4 points.

Next, the Mustang boys took the court. The Mustangs took the lead early in the first quarter leading to a score of 12 to 7 at the end of the quarter. With 5 minutes left in the second quarter, the Bulldogs took their first lead of the game with multiple 3-point shots that the Mustangs were unable to answer for. The score at half time was Bulldogs 30 to Mustangs 19. The third quarter the Mustangs still couldn’t find their groove, only scoring 8 more points. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs came back fighting, completely shutting down the Bulldogs 3-point shots and turning up the heat on their own offense. Unfortunately, it was too late to make the comeback they desperately wanted, ending the game with a loss 57 to 46. Top scorers were Peyton Sabaitis with 16 points and Riley Hardy with 15 points. This upcoming weekend the Mustangs will celebrate Homecoming by playing the Owyhee Braves and the Carlin Railroaders.
