The last weekend of January the Lund Mustangs traveled to Owyhee and Carlin.
That Friday the Mustangs made their way to Owyhee to play the Braves. The Lady Mustangs had their shot against the Braves first. The first quarter started out well, but the Braves took the lead early. By the end of the first half, the Braves were running up the score 41 to 18. The Mustangs continued to fight adding another 11 points in the third quarter and holding the braves to 13 points. But by the fourth quarter it was clear the Mustangs would be taking the loss, with the ending score 69 to 41.
The Varsity boys knew they had a hard game on their hands with the Braves. The first quarter the Braves stayed ahead with the Mustangs trailing right behind them ending the quarter 4 points behind. The end of the second quarter things were not looking promising with the Mustangs down by 24. The third quarter was much the same with the Mustangs making little leeway to shrink the deficit. Things changed in the fourth quarter when the Mustangs dug in, sinking baskets left and right. Their defense was able to hold the Braves to only 10 points. Unfortunately, it was too late in the game to catch up, suffering defeat 79 to 71. High scorers were Kasen Hardy with 38 points and Parker Rosenlund with 18.
Saturday the Lady Mustangs played the Carlin Railroaders. The game was close in the first half with several lead changes. The first half ended tied at 14. During the third quarter the Railroaders pulled ahead by 2 points, ending the quarter 20 to 18. The fourth quarter the Lady Mustangs kicked it up another gear with 9 more points and holding the Railroaders to only one basket. Taking home the win Mustangs 27 Railroaders 22. High scorers were Kenleigh Jensen with 7 points and Makenna Griffin 6.
The Mustang Varsity boys struggled with their shots in the first quarter ending it behind by 2 points. The second quarter the Mustangs got on a roll making 29 points and holding the Railroaders to 5, ending the half 39 to 17. In the third quarter the Railroaders started making baskets, but the Mustangs continued to rack up their score. By the fourth quarter the Railroaders were creeping up but were no match to the Mustangs. The Mustangs took home the win 66 to 50. Top scorers were Kasen Hardy with 22 points and Parker Rosenlund with 18.
