The Lund Mustangs kicked off their homecoming weekend hosting Jackpot last Friday. The Lady Mustangs started off strong sinking buckets throughout the first quarter. Their defense was on point, holding the Jaguars to just 2 points. The second quarter the Jaguars were able to get one more bucket and a foul shot bringing the score at the half to 16-5 with the Lady Mustangs holding strong. The second half continued to shine for the Mustangs with their score rising shot after shot. The Jaguars seemed to finally get their baskets going but were no match for the Lady Mustangs, with the Lady Mustangs winning at home 35 to 19. Makenna Griffin was on fire with 23 points; Kenleigh Jensen followed in points with 6.
Next up the Varsity boys had their chance to shine against the Jaguars. The game went back and forth during the first quarter before the Mustangs pulled ahead ending the quarter 24 to 8. During the second quarter the Jaguars continued to struggle with their baskets, while the Mustangs also slowed down on their baskets. By the end of the third quarter the Mustangs had started to run away with the game, with defense shutting the Jaguars down and only allowing 7 points. The third quarter ended 49 to 24. The fourth quarter Jaguars started to get on a roll, but it was too late. Mustangs had it in the bag, winning the last game of the night by 20 points, final score 61 to 41. High scorers were Parker Rosenlund with 15 points, and Kasen Hardy with 14.
Saturday homecoming weekend continued with the Mustangs hosting the Wells Leopards. The Lady Mustangs struggled to get going in the first quarter, only getting 3 points on the board in the first quarter. By the second quarter their shots were starting to sink but they still ended the half down by 13 points. In the third quarter Makenna Griffin was unstoppable, even sinking a three-point shot but the Mustangs still trailed by 14. The last quarter it was clear the Mustangs just couldn’t catch their break with the Leopards continuing to rack up the points. The Lady Mustangs suffered a hard defeat, losing 49-31. Top scorers were Makenna Griffin with 14 points, Hayden Hendrix and Sara Irie both had 5 points.
The Varsity boys had the final game of the weekend against the Leopards. The first quarter started out rough, with most of the Mustangs points being made by foul shots. The second quarter the game got more intense, with the Leopards coach getting a technical and then being thrown out of the game. The Mustangs finished the half ahead by 14 points. The third quarter the Mustangs continued to widen their lead, ending the quarter 45 to 24. The Leopards continued to fight, but the Mustangs held strong with their lead, adding another 20 points in the fourth quarter. Mustangs took another win at home with the final score 65 to 38. Top scorers were Kasen Hardy with 18 points and Parker Rosenlund with 17.
