Nev. – The Nevada State Police announces the Department’s Wellness and Resiliency Program has been awarded a $200,000 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness grant to develop a comprehensive behavioral health care system for personnel, family members, and retirees.
This grant will directly address the critical need for increased mental health support within the department.
The funds will be used to create a multi-faceted program designed to:
- Reduce stigma: Actively combat the stigma often associated with seeking help for mental health concerns.
- Enhance awareness: Implement educational resources and training programs to raise awareness of mental health issues, build resiliency and resistance against stress, and promote the importance of self- care.
- Strengthen peer support: Provide continued training for peer support team members, equipping them with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by colleagues, including depression, post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and suicidal ideation. This will enable them to offer earlier intervention and support to personnel in need.
- Expand access to resources: Personnel and their families will gain access to a comprehensive suite of mental health resources, including training programs and a dedicated wellness App. The App will offer features such as: Breathing exercises and grounding techniques, a directory of confidential statewide peer support members, self-assessment tools to identify potential mental health concerns, and strategies for coping with stress and building resiliency.
“The well-being of our officers and professional staff is paramount,” said Nevada State Police Director George Togliatti. “This grant allows the department to establish a robust support system that prioritizes mental health and empowers personnel to thrive both on and off the job. We are committed to ensuring our team has the resources they need to navigate the challenges inherent to the law enforcement profession.”
The Nevada State Police is dedicated to the safety and well-being of our communities and the brave men and women who serve them. This grant represents a significant step forward in creating a culture of mental health awareness and support within our department that will affect not only the officers themselves, but their families, the organization, and the communities they serve.
