Public Invited to Tour the Elko Nevada Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

ELKO – The First Presidency has announced the open house and dedication dates for the Elko Nevada Temple. A media day for the temple will be held on August 27, 2025. Invited guests will tour the temple in the afternoon of August 27, and all day on August 28 and 29, 2025. A public open house will run from August 30 to September 13, 2025, excluding Sundays.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple in one session on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 10:00a.m. The dedicatory session will be broadcast to all units in the temple district and rebroadcast at 2:00p.m.

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Elko Nevada Temple during general conference in April 2021.This will be Nevada’s third operating temple, following the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, which was dedicated in December 1989, and the Reno Nevada Temple, which was dedicated in April 2000. A fourth temple, the Lone Mountain Temple, was announced in October 2022. Nevada is home to nearly 183,000 Latter-day Saints in 362 congregations.

Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the ‘house of the Lord’ and the most sacred places of worship on earth. Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples, however, is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies, such as marriages, which unite families forever, and proxy baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to be baptized while living.
