It is with profound sadness the family of Sally M. Trujillo announce her peaceful passing on May 15, 2024 at her home in Ely, Nevada surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer. Sally was dedicated in her faith, trusted in God’s will, and shared her faith with her family.
Sally was born on November 1, 1936, in Vadito, New Mexico to Higinio (H.B.) and Elaiza Montoya. She joined her two older siblings at home – Mabel and Rudy. Later, Ben joined their family. She moved to White Pine County in her early years as her father found work as a sheepherder, miner, and later worked for the Northern Nevada Railway. Upon graduation from high school, Sally started working for the State of Nevada, first in Winnemucca and later returning to Ely.
On October 1, 1956, Sally married Waldo Trujillo in Eureka, Nevada. From this marriage, their five precious children were born – Beverly (Timothy) Grover, Rudy (Diane Martinez) Trujillo, Cynthia (Kevin) Whipple, Eric (Stephanie) Trujillo, and Nathan (Heather Yadon) Trujillo. Raising her children was Sally’s greatest blessing. After retiring from the State of Nevada after 30 years, she continued to work locally until 2001. Upon full retirement, Sally continued working at home, making homemade gifts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sally loved watching her Yankees and game shows, playing penny slots, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sharing her talents of crocheting, jelly making, baking sweets, and tortilla flipping with family and friends.
Sally, affectionately known as Grandma Sally to many, is survived by her precious children, 2 brothers, 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Sally is preceded in death by her parents, H.B. and Elaiza, her sister and brother-in-law Mabel and Gilbert Ulibarri, her two sisters-in-law Gloria Montoya and Molly Montoya, and her son-in-law Timothy Grover.
Services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ely, Nevada with the Rosary on Friday, June 14 at 6 pm and Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 15 at 10 am with graveside services to follow. Following the burial at the cemetery, the family would like to invite you to join them at St. Lawrence Hall for a luncheon.
