Sorenson and Nielson named Elks Jr. Students of the Month for November 2024

Zachary Jason Sorenson and Breanna Marie Nielson have been named Junior Students of the Month for November, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Sorenson, age 14, is the son of Jason and Lynn Sorenson of Ely. Nielson, age 14, is the daughter of Deborah and Curtis Nielson of McGill. Both are 8th graders at White Pine Middle School.

The Junior Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding students in the area.

Multiple achievements, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Junior Students of the Month.

Sorenson has been active in leadership, the AYSO and travel soccer team, intramural and travel basketball team and baseball including Allstars. He is on the Honor Roll and has been the Student of the Day nine times. He is also a community event volunteer. His hobbies are playing sports, hunting, fishing, calisthenics, traveling and quality time with family and friends.

Nielson has been active in robotics, leadership, and Young Women’s 2nd Counselor. She is also the current WPMS Student Council President. Her hobbies are playing her trumpet, reading, sculpting, writing and doodling.
