This is a postcard that was brought to me at the McGill Drugstore by Art Londos. There are several others of old McGill and NCC. I will use them in future articles. This postcard is dated October 1, 1915.
One interesting item about the card is the Post Office stamp. It is Cobre-Ely. I wonder if the Nevada Northern Railway Depot had a post office that used such a stamp?
I can vaguely remember some swans in the duck pond, but can’t recall what year.
The pond was originally a cooling pond for the Ely Light and Power Co. I don’t know what year the pond became a duck pond. Someone in Ely needs to get on the ball and write down some of this history, if it has not been done yet.
Here is a photo of the White Pine County Park in the early part of the 1900s. You can see the smokestack of the power plant.
I remember the gazebo and the little cement bridge, also the cement ditch. It didn’t have water all the time.
