COMINS LAKE
Water temps are hovering right around the 40 degree mark. Water clarity has improved, and the lake was recently stocked with around 8,500 trout. Anglers can expect their harvests to range from 8”-10” with the new stock and 16”-24” with the more mature stock that was already in the lake. With the cooler temperatures, anglers can expect bass fishing to be poor. Most are having luck with Powerbait, worms, spinners, and wet flies behind a bubble. Fly fishermen should consider nymph patterns and streamers such as wooly buggers and leech patterns with a little flash.
Anglers are encouraged to target Pike and dispatch them accordingly (unless they are radio tagged by NDOW- see note below.)
*Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Pike. These Pike will have an orange tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to the water. All other Pike must be dispatched if caught. *
ILLIPAH RESERVOIR
The reservoir is currently at 98% capacity and the water is starting to enter the spillway. Water temperatures are sitting right around 40 degrees. The final stock of the year was just done with almost 10,000 trout, averaging between 9”-10” in length. Anglers can also expect to reel in some of the existing trout measuring upwards of 12”-14”. Shoreline fishing has been productive, and small watercraft will obviously produce equal to better results. A variety of spinners, Powerbait, and night crawlers have been productive. Fly fishermen should focus on nymph patterns as well as wooly buggers and leech patterns with some flash.
CAVE LAKE
The lake is currently closed to fishing and empty. The dam repair is currently underway. Current projections are now for 2025.
