COMINS LAKE
The Water is still tea-stained as well as the presence of late summer weed growth. Surface water temperatures are in the 70’s. Trout fishing is still slow. Approximately 8,500 were stocked this spring, and anglers can expect trout harvests to be in the 14-18 inch range. Early morning and evening fishing will prove to be the most productive with the trout population. Bass populations are healthy and fishing has been good. It is much easier to access good bass fishing spots by boat, waders, floats, etc. Artificial crawdads and worms are proving successful along with brightly colored spinners, spoons, jakes, etc. There is now an established population of bluegill, although not quite large enough to noticeably impact anglers. Anglers are encouraged to target Pike and dispatch them accordingly (unless they are radio tagged by NDOW- see note below.)
Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Pike. These Pike will have an orange tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to water. All other Pike must be dispatched if caught.
COLD CREEK RESERVOIR
The reservoir was stocked with 2,000 rainbow trout and 1,500 tiger trout, all averaging 9”. Fishing has reportedly been active. Worms and Powerbait are proving successful while a variety of spinners and wooly buggers are also effective. There is a small Bass population, and while harvesting is allowed, it is strongly encouraged to practice catch-and-release until the population is well established.
KIRCH/SUNNYSIDE
Fishing activity has picked up and anglers can expect seasonal weed growth to impact accessibility, particularly by boat. Soft plastics have proven to be the most fruitful. Please refer to this year’s fishing regulations for current harvest information.
ILLIPAH RESERVOIR
The reservoir is showing some lower water lines but is still at good capacity. Water clarity is good and the trout fishing is good. Harvests range in the 8”-10” average with the occasional larger Brown. Fishing will be more productive in the early morning and late evening hours when it is cooler. Powerbait, worms, and spinners are all proving to be productive. Anything resembling a mayfly and/or Woolybuggers are proving successful for the fly fishermen.
CAVE LAKE
The lake is currently closed to fishing and empty. The dam repair is currently underway and tentatively, the expectation is that it will begin to be filled in the late fall to early part of winter.
