COMINS LAKE
Spring is officially here, and the lake is clear! The water is ice free and trout fishing has been productive over the last week. Anglers are reporting good luck with a variety of Powerbaits as well as nightcrawlers. Spoons, spinners, and a variety of other lures in gold, silver, and/or white and red are having good luck as well. Some have reported results with wooly bugger flies. As of now, the water is still hovering in the 40’s and bass have not quite begun to hit yet. With warming temperatures, we should see this change over the next month or so. The lake was stocked with around 8,500 trout late last fall. Anglers have been harvesting primarily trout ranging 15”-21”. Anglers are encouraged to target Pike and dispatch them accordingly (unless they are radio tagged by NDOW- see note below.) Pike anglers should expect some luck with hard and soft plastic baits, as well as flashy spoons and jigs.
*Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Pike. These Pike will have an orange tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to the water. All other Pike must be dispatched if caught. *
ILLIPAH RESERVOIR
The lake is clear of ice and fishing has been somewhat productive with Powerbait and night crawlers being the choice baits. The final stock of last year was done in late fall with almost 10,000 trout, averaging between 9”-12” in length. The road has been in good condition, but with the storms that are rolling in, this could change quickly.
CAVE LAKE
The lake is currently closed to fishing and empty. The dam repair is currently underway. Current projections are that it will begin filling this spring, and will be ready for all uses in 2025.
