With the completely unpredictable winter that we have been having, as such are the ice conditions on the lake. The majority of the north end is around 5-6 inches thick, while the middle of the lake is 10+ inches thick, all the while the south end is around 7” thick. With our warmer temperatures, the ice around the perimeter and in areas of vegetation is soft. Anglers should exercise caution, as there is no guarantee of ice safety at this time. The lake was stocked with around 8,500 trout late this fall. Anglers have been harvesting primarily trout ranging 15”-18”. Anglers are encouraged to target Pike and dispatch them accordingly (unless they are radio tagged by NDOW- see note below.) Pike anglers should expect some luck with hard and soft plastic baits, as well as flashy spoons and jigs.
*Please note that NDOW has placed radio tags in several Pike. These Pike will have an orange tag near their dorsal fin and a small antenna coming from their stomach. Please return these fish to the water. All other Pike must be dispatched if caught. *
The lake is iced over with thicknesses hovering around 7”. The final stock of the year was just done with almost 10,000 trout, averaging between 9”-12” in length. The road has been in good condition, but with the storms that are rolling in, this could change quickly. Anglers should not fish near the spillway at this time, per NDOW. Nightcrawlers, small jigs, and spoons have proven successful.
The lake is currently closed to fishing and empty. The dam repair is currently underway. Current projections are now for 2025.
