White Pine County has some of the most beautiful landscapes and, wildlife, and scenery in the entire state. Because of this, the White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board organizes and hosts around 150 community events per year that bring people from all over the country and internationally to take part in the life we get to experience daily.
With such a large portion of our county tax revenue coming from tourism related to our region, it becomes immensely important that we are careful stewards in the way we grow and improve. To reinvest in our county, and to bolster tourism, while also enriching and preserving the lives of the people who live here must be done with feedback and community cooperation.
To accomplish this task the White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board hosted their annual Convening of Outdoor Organizations and Businesses. This event hosted a number of organizations from local to federal government bodies as well as local businesses and outdoor enthusiasts in our community. All of these entities meet to discuss the future and direction of Tourism in White Pine County as well as the various programs and initiatives already in progress and planned for the future in our community as it relates specifically to the outdoors.
Presented by the Tourism Board was a destination plan designed to guide the Board, as well as industry, community, civic, and public land partners in shaping the county’s tourism and recreation economy to bring stronger returns for the county. The overall aim of the plan is to double the amount of visitor spending in the county across all businesses by 2023.
What’s worth noting is the emphasis on making sure that this plan is wholistic, and that the direction to increase prosperity in the county is driven in the largest majority by community feedback and experience. What is bad for the people who live here is not what is good for the county, regardless of how much revenue it may produce. With that in mind, much of the plan consisted of study and experience data that incorporates what the people of White Pine County enjoy about being here and enriching those experiences for those who live here.
Through this process, we make the experience for those coming to visit all that much better.
