On July 9, 2023 the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle burglary that had taken place in the City of Ely. Deputies investigated the burglary and reported that two females had entered into two, of the reporting parties’ vehicles, stealing multiple items. During the investigation deputies were able to identify the female suspects. An arrest warrant, along with a search warrant, were obtained for their arrest.
On July 17, 2023 the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office, Eastern Nevada Narcotics Task Force, and the Nevada State Police executed the arrest and search warrant on a residence in Ely. Deputies reported that Charlene Romero age 62 of Ely was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit a criminal act. Chalyndra D. Downing age 25 of Ely was arrested for burglary of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit a crime, petit larceny, trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, and providing false statement to a police officer.
Romero is being held on $10,000 bail and Downing is being held on $50,000 bail. Investigation into the incident continues.
