The White Pine County 4-H Achievement Night Awards Banquet was held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the Bristlecone Convention Center. It was hosted by the Parent Leader Organization (PLO).
The White Pine 4-H members racked up awards and prizes for all their hard work throughout the year at the 4-H Achievement Night Awards Banquet.
Awards were given to the 2024 Cloverbuds who completed their projects by entering their record book and exhibits in the County Fair & interviewed with the judge. They received a 4-H stuffed dog, Cloverbuds pin, and 4-H beanie. Cloverbuds Members were Mariah B., Darla C., Allison C., Logan C., Finnley H., Brynlee T., Destry T., & Kelsea T. Cloverbuds is a non-competitive 4-H project for kids ages 5-8 as of Jan 1. They try out a variety of projects throughout the 4-H year. Ely Cloverbuds is our main group, but Cloverbuds are also able to join our other community 4-H Clubs.
4-H record books are a requirement for members to complete their projects (ages 9-18). Members enter their 4-H projects in the White Pine County Fair, and then Record books are turned in and judged in October. There are 3 age groups: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Books had to be turned in on time, have leader signatures, and receive a Blue Ribbon to qualify for Grand or Reserve Champion. Award winners were as follows:

The Herdsman Award is given for an outstanding showman who has put in the work and taken excellent care of their livestock. Pens are kept clean, water is fresh and filled, and animals are fed in a timely manner. The member shows leadership and responsibility in and out of the show ring. Barn Superintendents nominated two members from each barn: Beef, Sheep & Goat, Swine, and Small Animal. In order to qualify for the award, member’s record books had to be completed and turned in on time. The White Pine County Junior Livestock Show’s Executive Board members voted and the winner of this year’s Herdsman award and belt buckle was given to Eligh Y.
The Budding Leadership award is given to a Junior Member who shows the potential to be an excellent leader, but may not always win Grand or Reserve on their projects. This award is given in loving memory of A.Z. Joy to a Junior 4-H member. He desired the youth of today to grow into the leaders of tomorrow, and this year, the 4-H Parent Leader Organization awarded it to Charity T.
The D.W. Heckethorn award is presented in loving memory to the Most Inspirational District 13 Senior 4-H member. This year, the award went to Lizzy Parker.
Kaylyn C. won Overall State Champion on her 4-H Photography photo of the Pensacola Bay Pier in Florida at the State Expo. She was awarded with a rocking camp chair by PLO, presented by Tess LaCroix, White Pine County’s 4-H Extension Professional.
Giovanni C. was also presented with a rocking camp chair for his Overall State Champion on his candy project at the Nevada State Expo. Tess spoke about how he competed against all other food artistry projects including cookies, cakes, and more. His candy was Blue Raspberry flavored, hard, and had no bubbles in it, which the judges raved about.
Tess also spoke about her SPIN (special interest) classes that the Extension office is able to offer this year. The first class will be held this Thursday, November 21, at Desert Rose Ceramics, where youth ages 9-18 can paint a ceramics item, and even use it as one of their 4-H exhibits in the ceramics category if they wish.
