Bobcats and Ladycats look to finish strong as the regular season reaches conclusion.
It was a solid weekend of White Pine High School hoops this past weekend.
The boys basketball team recorded a gritty, 37-29 win at home against Founders Classical Academy.
Senior guard Ryan Walker scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half to help White Pine get through a slow start for the victory.
Despite senior guard Jackson Hart providing White Pine’s only five points of the first quarter and the team totaling 10 points through the first half, the Bobcats were able to turn things around after the half, scoring 16 points in the third quarter and 27 of its 37 points in the final 16 minutes.
With the win, Bobcats have been victorious in four of their last five games with three games remaining.
The Bobcats moved to 7-6 in 2A South action and 9-15 overall. Among those trio of games left on the regular season schedule, they face second-place Lake Mead Academy and fourth-place Green Valley Christian on back-to-back days on Feb. 2 and 3.
As a result, it is going to be a tough couple of hard-fought games before Senior Night against Awaken Christian on Feb. 9, a six-day break following the matchup against GV Christian. Tipoff against Lake Mead is at 7:00 p.m., GV Christian game begins at 2:00 p.m. and Senior Night against Awaken Christian tips off at 6:00 p.m.
Girls hoops’ defeats FCA, moves to five games over .500 in league action
On the girls side, the Ladycats also secured a win against Founders Classical Academy, scoring a 61-9 victory. The White Pine girls basketball team was able to snap a short, two-game losing skid and has now won five of their last eight games as they also have three games remaining on the regular season schedule.
With the win, the girls hoops team moves to 9-4 in 2A South League play and can finish the season at or above a .500 overall record by going 2-1 or better with its three remaining games, currently sitting at 11-12.
White Pine currently sits in fourth place in league play heading into the final three games against second-place Lake Mead on Feb. 2 at 5:30 pm, Green Valley Christian on Feb. 3 at 12:30 p.m. before Senior Night on Feb. 9 against Awaken Christian, which tips off at 4:30 p.m.
This season, both the boys and girls team will be hosting the 2A Southern Region Tournament from Feb. 15-17.
As a result, both squads look to finish the season strong as they continue playing inside the friendly confines of the White Pine High School gymnasium for Divisions, looking to then take the next step of playing in the 2A NIAA State Tournament Feb. 23-24.
