On January 6, 2025, the White Pine County Commissioners held their first meeting of the year. The new commissioners made waves, first in voting and approving to eliminate the County Manager position, with all in approval. Then they went on to reject Mark Bassett’s appointment to the Tourism and Recreation Board, sighting a conflict of interest because of his involvement with the Nevada Northern Railroad Foundation. Next the board rejected Art Olson’s appointment to the Board of Equalization. Both these positions will now be readvertised. Lauire Carson was removed from the position of Director of the Central Nevada Regional Water Authority (CNRWA), despite two support letters and Van-Camps reservations. These changes were met with skepticism during public comment with most concerned with the elimination of the County Manager position. Some stated this is going to cause confusion on who to go to with issues and concerns and others stated that the Board
doesn’t realize how much the County Manager does and now it will fall back on them. Other appointments included Janet Vancamp as the new Commission Chair and Paula Carson as Vice Chair.
