The Fallon Jr/High School Rodeo was held April 19-21 in Fallon, Nevada. With beautiful weather each day of competition, the kids were able to compete, uninhibited by environmental restraints for a change and they made the most of it.
The high school team brought the majority of their team to compete and they stepped up with their best foot forward. Lainey Barney made a great catch in the breakaway roping first go, placing 10th, but couldn’t get it caught second go; she still placed 21st in the average on one head. Some tough luck between her and her partner in the team roping left them with a no time for both gos, but she shined in the barrel racing, making two very nice runs, placing 21st in the first go, 14th in the second go, for 11th in the average. Charlee Mangum is getting things smoothed out a little at a time; she placed 33rd first go in the barrel racing, 48th second go and 39th in the average. She had a bit of hard luck in the pole bending second go, but the first go was looking good for 29th place and 34th in the average. The Rimington boys, Travis and Heston, continue to climb on their bulls each rodeo, but the stock continues to get the better of them. Both boys made great efforts, but eight seconds is a long stretch when the stock decides to get rank. Brooklynn Sena broke the roping slump this weekend; she made two quick catches in the breakaway roping for 7th first go, 12th second go and 6th in the average. She followed that up by catching both gos in the team roping with her partner Rylie, placing 13th first go, 8th second go and 10th in the average. She was solid in the goat tying both gos, placing 10th first go, 4th second go and 4th in the average, and she made two business runs in the barrel racing, 6th first go, 15th second go and 6th in the average. Jessica Young was on point roping this weekend, catching both gos in the breakaway, placing 11th first go, 23rd second go and 10th in the average. She jockeyed two nice runs in the barrel racing for 15th first go, 18th second go for 12th in the average. The luck ran dry for team roping however, receiving a no time both gos. They’ll get ‘em next time.
The junior high team did equally as well. Sawyer Bliss was benched for a rodeo following a knee injury, but came back where he left off, placing well in team roping; 5th first go, 1st second go and 2nd in the average. He made two painful goat tying runs for 7th first go, 13th second go and 12th in the average. In the breakaway roping, he caught both his calves for 9th first go, 10th second go and 8th in the average. After a first go miss in the ribbon roping, he made a fast catch second go, but his rope broke and failed to hold the calf, so they received a no time in both gos. Kiala Reynolds started her weekend off on the right foot, making a nice run in the jackpot barrel race, winning some money and carried a bit of that luck to the first go of the rodeo, placing 2nd. The second go brought a down barrel and a penalty for 23rd in the go and 15th in the average. Her first go breakaway calf was elusive and she received a no time but, she snagged the second go calf for 9th and 14th in the average. She made two respectable runs in the pole bending as well for 13th first go, 14th second go and 13th in the average.
With only two regular season rodeos left before State, the pressure is on to perform to the peak of each athlete’s ability. The junior high is competing to attend the national finals in Iowa and the high school will attend their National Finals in Wyoming. Each of these contestants are striving to be the best in the state, so that they may take their shot at being the best in the nation.
