White Pine Rodeo Club does well at Battle Mountain Rodeo

The Battle Mountain Jr/High School Rodeo was held in Battle Mountain on September 20th – 22nd. The rodeo date conflicted with White Pine High School Homecoming festivities and that conflict reduced the number of rodeo members in attendance from the White Pine Club. Nevertheless, what members were there competed to the
best of their ability and, as always, represented White Pine very well.

Sawyer Bliss tried his hand at another new event to him this weekend, Reined Cow Horse. The event includes two gos of reining and two gos of cow work. Both are scored based on performance of the horse and rider. First go, he had an over rotation in the reining pattern, Resulting in a 0, but he worked his cow for a score and placed 13th overall. Second go brought better luck, placing 5th in the cow work, and 7th in the reining for 7th in the go, and 12th in the average.
We hope to see him continue to expand his skill base in this event. He roped well in the team roping, catching and turning both his steers quickly.
They placed 16th first go, took a no time second go, and were 23rd in the average.

First go in the tie down roping, he placed 11th. Second go he fought hard to get his calf down and tied, which he did, but he was just over the 30 second time limit, receiving a no time, and placed 14th in the average. We know he will settle into things as he gains more experience and he will be a top contender before it’s over.
Heston Rimington continues to develop himself as a team roper. He and his partner placed 11th in the first go, just shy of a points gaining run. Second go they had some tough luck getting the steer turned for Heston’s heel loop, receiving a no time and finishing 18th in the average. They show great potential. Heston also continues his hard work in bull riding, but it seems to be getting the better of him lately. He made two great efforts, but came off early both gos. We know if he could get one ride under his belt, the spell would be broken and we’d see him excel once again. Keep up the hard work Heston.

Brooklynn Sena was the last of the three club members to attend. She experienced a series of ups and downs through both gos. First go in breakaway turned up a no time, but she got one caught quick and clean second go for 10th in the go, and 21st in the average. Both gos in the pole bending resulted in a down pole, placing her 25th first go, 20th second go, and 22nd in the average. The ground in the first go of the barrel racing did not hold them through the first turn, causing a slip and placing them 7th. Second go brought and cautious run and a barrel down, giving them a penalty for 31st in the go, and 29th in the average. First go in the goat tying didn’t bring much better luck. A bobble in the tie left her long, placing 25th, but second go was more on point, placing 11th, and 20th in the average. Once Brooklynn finds her groove again, she will be back where we are used to seeing her. The next couple weeks will bring focused practices and error corrections, we have no doubt.

The White Pine team heads to the Elko High School Rodeo in Spring Creek October 4th -6th. We wish them safe travels and the best of luck chasing those dreams!
