Nevada State Police Joins Forces to Stop Pedestrian Fatalities

Nevada State Police Joins Forces to Stop Pedestrian Fatalities; Pedestrian Safety is a Two-Way Street

The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division is partnering with other participating Nevada law enforcement agencies in the Joining Forces campaign urging pedestrians and drivers to be aware of each other and to share the road responsibly. The pedestrian safety campaign runs from August 7 to 31, 2024.

As of July 31, 2024, 67 pedestrians have lost their lives in pedestrian crashes on Nevada’s roadways. In an effort to reverse this number, State Troopers and partnering agencies will be issuing citations to pedestrians and motorists who are violating traffic safety laws.

Pedestrian reminders:

  • Walk on sidewalks whenever possible or as far to the side of the road as possible.
  • Cross at crosswalks or intersections.
  • Between dusk and dawn, wear bright clothing or accessories that can be seen at night.
  • Don’t be distracted by your phone, keep your eyes on the road.

Motorists:

  • Put the phone down and watch for pedestrians.
  • Driving a few miles over the speed limit might not feel like a big deal, but in a collision with a pedestrian, it can be the difference between life and death.
  • Make eye contact with pedestrians waiting to cross the street.
  • Take extra care while driving around schools, playgrounds and neighborhoods

The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol remains dedicated to bringing the number of fatalities on our roadways to zero through promoting safe pedestrian and motorist behavior. Whether you are in a vehicle or on foot, stay alert and safely share the road.
